There are lots of people working on curing cancer all around the world. Non-scientists could help raise money for organisation like cancer research UK which could help fund research.

Lots of research is going on around the world to find out more about cancer. The problem with cancer is that it there are lots of different types of cancer and they need different treatment. There are breakthroughs being made all of the time in the area of cancer treatment.

Anyone can help raise money to put towards charities research for cancer. You could do a bake sale or a sponsored run and donate the money.

I think if we knew the answer to ‘how’, we’d be really lucky because then we’d know exactly what to do.

It’s hard to imagine that there will be a cure for every cancer, as cancer results from the evolution of cells within our body. To stop cancer, we’d have to stop mutations from happening at all, or be able to detect them when they’re present in really low numbers so that we could fix them.

People who aren’t doing research (sorry Jonny I don’t like the term “non-scientists” as it feels a bit us-vs-them to me 🙂 ) can contribute by running or participating in a fundraising event for cancer research charities (like Cancer Research UK)–like Race for Life.

      Story time:
In Canada, every year we celebrate a man named Terry Fox, who lost one of his legs due to bone cancer. Terry Fox planned to raise money for cancer research by doing a “Marathon of Hope”, where he would run a full marathon (26 mi) every day, from the east coast of Canada to the west coast–over 3000 mi. Terry Fox raised over $24 million for cancer research (about £12 million). Sadly, his cancer came back about 1/3 way across Canada, and he passed away. But his story has inspired millions of Canadians (and people in other countries, too) to raise money for cancer research. Most schools hold a “Terry Fox Run” every year in his honour.
