My work does not use animals, so I have never harmed an animal during my work. However, the scientists I know who do use animals in their research, do so only when necessary and with a lot of care and respect for the animals they must use.
I have to confess I have done it. However, I have always treated animals with great respect and following the law. Animals used for experimentation must be put to sleep or anesthetized before experiments so they don’t feel any pain. In the same way animals used for food should be killed without hurting them or at least minimizing their pain.
I’m a chemist so I have never used an animal in an experiment. Some of the drugs I have made have been used in animal experiments. Until there’s a better solution, animals have to be used in the testing of new drugs because without it no new drugs would be allowed.
All animal testing has many rules about how it is carried out and only when it is absolutely necessary. The people I know who do it, take care of the animals humanely and always treat them with respect.
I’m a chemist so like Lindsay, my work don’t directly use animals for experiments. However, I did accidentally squash a spider with a glass beaker once. ☹️
Until now, my experiments have not involved using animals. I know other scientists who use rats and mice for their work when it’s absolutely necessary, but there is a lot of regulation to do so – not everybody can do it!
