I do watch The Big Bang Theory, almost every week! Leonard is my favourite character, although my research is closer to Bernadette’s and I think I identify with Amy the most.
I think the writers do try to talk about science accurately, otherwise I think the audience would complain. They have a scientist as an adviser on the show, Dr David Saltzberg from University of California Los Angeles, who is in charge of the science-related jokes. Plus the actor who plays Amy (Dr Mayim Bialik) has a doctorate in neurobiology in real life—how cool is that?
I do watch Big Bang Theory. Sheldon is my favourite character because he is so awkward and funny! I love his honesty, although sometimes he is far too special. I agree with Danna that they are very accurate when they talk about science. Although I have to confess I am not an expert in physics, I have a friend who is working exactly in the same as Sheldon and he also loves the series.
Along with some of the others, I watch BBT. My fav character is Raj and have the same understanding as Danna, that the show’s science is checked by someone in the field, so that the science is solid.
Tbh, I watch it more for the jokes than the science, it’s nice to turn your brain off from work sometimes!
Hi Cait,
I also watch Big Bang Theory, and yes, it’s scientific context is being checked my a special crew of people to confirm the science makes sense. It’s hard to say what’s my favorite character because I like them all! I really like Sheldon character and also the “real person”: have you ever seen any of his interviews?
Also, if you like Big Bang Theory, have you ever watched “Myth Boosters”? You get to see a lot of stuff exploding and you learn a lot of cool science facts!
