I think the most fascinating pattern I have seen was a corn bunting song from the island of South Uist in Scotland. The song syllables looked like a honey dipping stick. I discovered it about four summers ago. I was just sitting in the field, recording this new bird singing and noticed a very different pattern on my laptop screen. Sadly this song dialect is now extinct – the birds that sang it have disappeared. The species is endangered, on the “red list”.
