Finding something new. You have an idea why animals behave like they do. Then you test it. When you’re right it’s like Yay! And when you’re not right it doesn’t matter: you just ask different questions to find out what is really going on and why they are really behaving like that.
Knowing that the work I am doing will make a difference to something – knowing that information I provide during my study will contribute to improving the welfare of elephants housed in zoos. I just like to know that I have worked hard and found out something new 🙂
Doing data analysis – I know that is super dorky and I don’t care! I used to hate it because it’s really hard to learn but the reason I find it really satisfying now is because I had to work so hard learning how to do it. That’s the thing with anything you find really hard – cracking it is so much more satisfying than getting good at something you find easy.
