      Woah – that’s a brilliant question!

I’d probably have to go for broke – usually project build up and you do a series of small experiments to make sure the final big one is right and the best it can be. If I could only do one more (and if money was not an issue) , it would be a big one in patients where we just try some of the new medicines we are working on to see if they work. We know they’re safe, so they won’t do any harm – and if just one new medicine has a positive effect I’d consider it a job well done.

I would love to do a study to demonstrate the health benefits of running. As a form of exercise, the energy expenditure per minute is higher than other common forms of activity such as walking, swimming, cycling etc. This means it is a very time efficient form of exercise. The trouble is that people who are not trained appropriately in it can suffer injuries. I would like to conduct a study where appropriate training is administered to evaluate the longer term effectiveness of running!
