My grandmother was a midwife 🙂
I have studied the reproduction of different animals. They process itself is very similar

Yep, we studied it a bit during our Alevels. I know as bit more now as we’ve done a couple of projects looking at pregnancy complications ( where Mum or baby gets poorly because the placenta doesn’t develop properly). We’ve even found something in the blood that can tell if you are going to get a complication before you have any symptoms!

Hi Poppy, did I chat to you before? did you ask me about oxygen use in the myometrium?

I’m not an expert in reproduction but in my 3rd year at Edinburgh Uni I did a module called Reproductive Biology. It was an excellent course, we dissected the uterus of a sheep which had 2 lambs inside (this is strictly speaking not allowed because farmers are not meant to take pregnant sheep to the abattoir) . It was a fantastic day in the lab.

I also worked for 6 weeks in the ultrasound department of obstetrics and gynaecology. That was really interesting.

You can study reproductive biology without being enrolled on a midwifery course and you can work in obstetrics as an ultrasound tech. It might be worth looking into some Universities and checking out other courses before you finally decide on midwifery because there are lots of other, perhaps less obvious, careers which are also really interesting in this field.

      Best of luck
