I work in the University of Bath and am on the payscale for a senior lecturer! The payscales for the university are available online here – the normal salaries are in light blue: http://www.bath.ac.uk/hr/working/pay-reward/payscales/

Postdocs (people doing research who have a PhD) tend to be on grade 7, lecturers, senior lecturers and readers are on grade 8-9. Where you are depends on experience and years of service.

PhD students in chemistry (doing a three year research degree after finishing their undergraduate studies) earn just over £14,000/year tax free.
