I didn’t study medicine, but my friend did.

He had to apply for the early UCAS deadline to be able to be accepted into medical school (these generally required 3 A’s at A-levels; normally in Biology, Chemistry and Maths).

His course ran for five years (but in some places they can take six years). After graduation he has entered a training programme, where he shadows other fully qualified doctors. This will take him 2 years to complete. After/during this he will be awarded a medical licence. He will then be able to chose which type of doctor he wants to be – it can take 3 years extra training to be a GP or 8 years extra to be a surgeon.
