Hi thanks for your question. So at medical school we all learn about all areas of medicine – from orthopaedics (bones) to cardiology (hearts) to paediatrics (children). Obviously we can’t possibly learn everything about everything but we learn the basics. After medical school, paediatric training is 8 years long before you become a consultant paediatrician and in this time you learn about diagnosing and treating children. Essentially these 8 years are spent working in paediatrics and getting support, teaching and guidance from more senior doctors.
