I am not sure if the contribution for humans should be the only factor that motivates you to try to understand other species that share the planet with us, there are many other factors to take into account, like all the interconnections that make planet earth so unique, from the presence of water to the blue sky. I think you should be aware that we are one part of the living organism but not necessarily the most important.

Nonetheless, by studying the genetic make up of the damselflies will help us to understand how a species that have been able to live for so long 250 million years!!! has been able to do it without so much change. and would give us an idea of how better comprehend how climate change could affect all the species on earth.
